The revelation of the night of Pentecost

Last night was the night of Pentecost or Shavuʿoth. After the first steaming hot day of summer, clouds were accumulating in the afternoon, looking like rain was gathering to wash the heat off the land. But the sky was holding back. It started towards midnight, rainless and quiet, it lit up every two or three seconds, ablaze with ominous letters written by lighting. This lasted for hours. Then finally, the concoction was ready, and instead of rain, a violent hail was thrown down on us, loud and threatening like machinegunfire. It sounded as if the sky was going to follow, but hail turned into rain. Today the sky over Paris seems tired an hungover of its excess.

In the New testament Pentecost is described as following:

" And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language."
